According to the latest data published by the Instituto de Estudios de Automoción for the Asociación Nacional de Vendedores de Vehículos a Motor, sales of second-hand bikes rose to 209 827 units during 2011, an increase of 6.8% compared to 2010.
The growth in sales of second-hand bikes was higher than that of new machines in Spain last year. The proportion in 2011 reaching 1.8 to 1 in favour of second-hand bikes. This means that there has been an increase of three points compared to the figures from 2010.
Referring to the second-hand moped sector, sales of this type of two-wheeled vehicle ended 2011 with a slight decrease, of 0.9% compared to 2010. The ratio between the sales of second-hand and new models was 3.4 to 1.
Sales of second-hand mopeds grew in all regions - comunidades autónomas - except Murcia. Regions with the highest levels of growth in this sector of the Spanish market were Asturias, The Basque country, the Balearic Islands and Madrid.
